Education is the foundation for empowerment. For many years, the Deaf community in Somalia was excluded from learning due to communication barriers and lack of resources.

SONAD established schools dedicated to Deaf students, starting in 2007 with just 60 learners and growing to more than 300 at its peak. Today, the school in Hodan continues to serve over 100 students, offering them access to quality primary and secondary education.

Through this initiative, SONAD works to:

• Eliminate ignorance and isolation among the Deaf.

• Promote Somali Sign Language as a medium of instruction.

• Train teachers to support inclusive learning.

• Ensure every Deaf child has the chance to learn, grow, and participate fully in society.

By investing in education, SONAD opens doors for the Deaf community to achieve independence, dignity, and equal opportunities.
